NAIL TECHNICIAN

Get certified as a Nail Technician in three months. Program includes classroom hours held at our institution and practice hours held in our on-campus salon & spa Elite House of Beauty. Learn the fundamentals of nail care, types of nails, design, the ins-and-out of the beauty business and experience the unique opportunity of practicing out of a full-service and functioning salon.

Program Objective

To prepare students to work as a professional nail technician and successfully obtain the Florida State license upon completion of the program.

Requirements for Application

Applicants for the Facial Specialist program must meet the following admission requirements:

Must be 18 years old by the time of graduation from the program.
- If under 18, applicant must complete the admissions process with a parent or guardian.
Proof of high school graduation

copy of a high school diploma, high school transcripts, or General Education Diploma (GED)
Proof must list the date of graduation
Diplomas from outside the United States must be translated and evaluated to show equivalency of high school diplomas.

Program Description

This program of study is designed to provide students with the skills to beautify the hands and feet through shaping nails, conditioning the cuticle, the application of nail polish, the application of hands and feet massage, etc. It also includes the repairing of damaged or broken nails through wrapping or mending and the performing of the different kinds of sculptured nails with or without tips. This program provides hands-on learning and practice.

Requirements for Graduation

To graduate from the Nail Technician program, students must:

Complete a total of 184 hours of theory and clinical practice.
Passing all courses with 75% (C) or more.
Meeting all financial obligations with the school.

Upon completion of the program the student will receive a diploma

DISCLOSURE: Students may begin working in their field of training as soon as a diploma is received and state certification is passed.

COURSE OUTLINE

HAE 100 – HIV/AIDS

4 Theory Hours / 0 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 4 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

This course is designed to provide the necessary information concerning HIV/AIDS and the medical worker. Students will learn the history of HIV/AIDS, procedures and protocols required for caring for HIV/AIDS patients, the pathology of the disease and the expectations, objectives of clinical management that is standard for HIV/AIDS patients.

FAS 100 – Florida Laws and Rules

4 Theory Hours / 0 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 4 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will learn about the Florida laws and rules from the Board of Cosmetology Chapter 477, Florida Statutes; Chapter 61G5, Florida Administrative Code; Sections of Chapter 455, Florida Statutes; Chapter 61, Florida Administrative Code, emphasis on the sections that apply to the Facial Specialist.

NAT 101 – Sanitation

6 Theory Hours / 2 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 8 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will understand contamination control and identify common salon contaminants, explain why sterilization is important in the professional salon, define sanitation and disinfection, understand how to sanitize, and disinfect, the use of disinfectants and how to effectively disinfectant implements and hard surfaces.

NAT 104– Manicures

15 Theory Hours / 10 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 25 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will gain knowledge of nail technology supplies, choosing a nail shape, plain manicure, French and American Manicures, reconditioning hot oil manicure, performing a man’s manicure, manicure using an electric file, paraffin wax treatment, hand and arm massage, spa manicure. Students will learn procedures for basic table set-up, handling blood during a manicure, performing a plain manicure, and paraffin wax treatment.

NAT 107– Sculpting Using a Form

10 Theory Hours / 5 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 15 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will learn about the proper procedures and precautions for the application of acrylic nails over forms, safety precautions for applying primer, procedure, and precautions for applying of acrylic nails over tips, describe and demonstrate two basic types of maintenance for acrylic nails, describe the proper procedure for removing acrylic nails.

NAT 108– Nail Wraps and/or Mending

10 Theory Hours / 5 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 15 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will identify kinds of nail wraps and their uses, identify the benefits of using silk, linen, fiber glass, and paper wraps, demonstrate proper procedures and precautions to use in fabric wrap applications, describe the maintenance of fabric wrap, demonstrate the proper procedure for fabric wrap removal.

NAT 109– Nail Fill-Ins

10 Theory Hours / 5 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 15 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will work with artificial nails, specifically acrylic nails. Students learn how to apply acrylic nails on top of the natural nail bed or nail tip. As a part of this process, students also learn how to fill in the area between the real and artificial nail so that it appears blended. This course also covers topics on how to properly remove artificial nails or fix natural nail cracks with artificial components.

NAT 112– Gel Nails

5 Theory Hours / 5 Lab Hours / 0 Externship Hours / 10 Total Hours / Prerequisites: None

Students will learn techniques to improve the durability and longevity of your gel nails. Learn how to use a led gel lamp and understand the difference between an LED / UV gel lamp. Learn the anatomy of the nail plate, so you can identify the parts of the nails when they are referred to. Learn how to properly use nail forms to do sculptured gel nails.
